Anglers Catch Report
IMPORTANT NEWS. CLOSING SOONER THAN PROJECTED. SEE NEWSLETTER

Mainly due to the wholesale price of salmon dropping by half in the last year I've decided to reopen the lake to move the stock I have here at the rearing unit, so come for another visit! Everything will be basically the same as in previous years (although not last year with the tigers) meaning some really good sport with salmon on a singled handed fly rod. Normally the first stocking is in September but this year the large grade salmon have grown on and are being stocked in late November, this means the average weight will be 10+lbs. Together with lighter angling pressure the catches should be very good.
The owners have been upgrading the lake site, all the main work has been completed, the lake is the same but the backcasting zone has been much improved and the 4x4 has no access any more. We can use the lodge for some weeks (it has heaters now!) until a new floor is laid then the hotel will be main rest area,  I'll see what I can do to keep the facilities available. We will always have use of the toilet and the sheltered sitting area at the lake, please contact me for up to date info on this.

GENERAL INFORMATION
Stillwater Salmon Fishery is your best chance of catching an Atlantic Salmon on rod and line, over the last two salmon seasons the average catch was 3.56 per day ticket and 90.7% of visiting anglers went home with a salmon. It's not the same as traditional salmon angling but if you want to feel a salmon pulling on your line this is the place to visit. Here they have been grown in freshwater and are in the silver, feeding stage of their lives, which means we fish mainly from September to June. Fishing techniques are very similar to stillwater trout fishing but it's a more interesting challenge, and you need strong tackle, anglers report that they fight as well and in some cases better than their wild relatives. The lake is fully stocked so there are always salmon present to fish for and ice aside is always fishable. All anglers, especially new visitors, are very welcome and plenty of helpful free advice is available at the start of each day.

Day tickets £120 per person, BE SURE TO BOOK A PLACE. Pay by bank transfer otherwise cash or cheque on the day . Single or group bookings of up to 6 fishermen. While the salmon are 10+lbs it's keep first three fish, release three then stop fishing, (Keep three, release two if part of a full fishery £100 ticket)
Anglers should bring their own lunch. 9am start, fish until 4pm Winter, 5pm Spring
Book the whole fishery - £800 for the day, for up to 8 rods. (If 8 or more rods, £100 per angler).
All prospective anglers need is a strong (7+ weight) single-handed fly rod, sinking line, selection of trout lures, and large landing net! The popular trout lures seem to be best. Size 2-8 hook. Don't forget a decent priest. Minimum 15lb leader; there is plenty of 15lb floro coated copolymer leader line for free in the lodge.
Anglers must move away from their position after one hour or after catching two salmon. We reserve the right to change these rules of the fishery to facilitate the management of the fishery as required.

The latest catch statistics at the fishery. This should give prospective anglers an idea of 'how it's fishing'. I'll try to update it every day but pressures of work, really bad internet and late submissions might mean it's not always completely up to date. I will be happy to put booked anglers in touch with anglers who have recently fished the lake. Don't forget any blank qualifies for a reduced ticket for next time. (M=closed for maintenance.)
